Wales - Germany 2016
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

This Youth Exchange is a bilateral exchange between Boys’ and Girls’ clubs of Wales and Sportkreisjugend Rems-Murr of Germany. Both organisations have an established relationship of over 10 years, however, this project is a new project that aims to provide an opportunity for disadvantaged young people to learn about each other’s cultures and learn from each other. The overriding theme of the Youth Exchange is ‘Health, Wellbeing and Employment’ - these are key issues amongst the group and will be addressed using non-formal learning methods. This Youth Exchange will involve 30 young people from Wales and 30 young people from Germany supported by qualified youth workers. The young people from Wales are from some of the most disadvantaged communities of Wales. These young people are from areas where youth unemployment is high and young people face uncertain futures with a lack of opportunity. These young people face social deprivation, financial constraints and low self esteem. The 30 participants from Germany are selected via a variety of sports clubs associated with our German Partners. These young people have issues around self esteem and social exclusion. Within this group there are 4 young people with physical disabilities and 4 young people from ethnic minority groups, whilst many of the group have a brothers and sisters with disabilities. German Participants are identified by staff and volunteers from our partner organisation. Both partners work with young people with a wide selection of social and economical issues, yet both have them in very different ways. Its this diversity that allows the exchange to maximise its impact on those who attend. The Youth Exchange will take place in two distinct areas of Wales, Brecon National Park and the mountainous area of Llanberis in North Wales. These areas provide different opportunities for learning. Previous Youth Exchanges have been commended by the Welsh Government ‘Youth Work Showcase’ book of youth projects taking place in Wales. The overriding theme of the exchange is ‘Health, Wellbeing an Employment’.The project will be internally and externally evaluated against the project objectives.
