Wake Up. A Force for Change: The Impact of Culture and Creative Art on Community Cohesion

Wake up through high quality performing art develops cultural practice using music/creative arts to foster tolerance and understanding between ethnic and socially divided communities. The methodology employed creates a sense of place and confidence to promote cultural tolerance, conflict resolution , peaceful co-existence and the respect for human rights.Wake Up has three goals: - to develop high quality international youth music theatre production/performance- to train cultural leaders in the methodology of using music/creative arts to foster understanding for cultural diversity and peaceful coexistence - to influence at national/international level the use of this methodology in cultural policy and implementation.Wake Up partnership brings together: Opera Circus' (OC) experience in partnership building and project delivery with performance, music and the creative arts. Edinburgh University (Edinburgh) and Musicians without Borders(MwB) develop apply methodologies in workshops and performance- demonstrating the cultural impact of music as a transforming power - and Teatar Mimart's (Mimart) renowned skills in mime/physical theatre adds a further artistic dimension to the project.Wake Up demonstrates via integrated series of activities, the power of partnerships to achieve more together: 6 international events with Partnership Meetings/Steering Groups led by OC.-May 2010 NL. Launch/ Opening Concert 'Reconciliation, Peace and Diversity' led by MwB.-November 2010 BiH. Workshops for cultural leaders developing the methodology by partnership experts-March 2011Belgrade. Workshops and performance for Assitje Int Festival led by Mimart/full partnership and experts.- May 2011Sweden. Performance at Assitje Festival 'Building Bridges Crossing Borders'.- November 2011.NL.Training and Skills Sharing led by MwB/Edinburgh with partnership and cultural/political decision makers - May 2012 Dorset UK: Conference 'Get Moving evaluation and future' led by OC.
