Vzdelávacie mobility pre učiteľov cudzích jazykov
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The primary school of Dr. J. Dérer has more than 600 pupils and constantly strives to prepare and educate its students for the life in rapidly changing modern information society. The school has clearly defined its long term priorities which are foreign language learning, improvement of literacy skills, improvement of math and science education, as well as implementation of modern effective innovative teaching methods. As an attempt to achieve one of the school priorities - the effective education of foreign lanugage, the school prepared and submitted this project. The aim of the project was the improvement of professional skills of foreign language teachers. The school believes that well prepared and trained teachers are more willing to use new innovative methods that would help develop and improve students´ communicative competences. We believe that improved communicatice competence will lead to better results in English as well as to bigger students´autonomy and independence. The aim of the submitted project was to change the philosophy of foreign language teaching - to transform the process from the one characterised by memorisation to communication, from transmissive into interactive eduation. The teachers of English described possibilities to achieve this goal in European Development Plan. Three teachers decided to participate in the project. These teachers in cooperation with the coordinator of the project carefully selected the best courses whose syllabus supported the aims of EDP. The teachers are well experienced teachers who understand the inevitability of life-long learning, who are willing to constantly improve their professional competences and like the challenge. These three teachers participated in two courses that took place in London in July 2015. They participated in courses that focused mainly on modern creative methodology, CLIL, and methods and ways how to increase and support students´ authonomy and improvement of communicative competences. The participants found the courses as very useful and they shared and exchanged their experiences with other language teachers from our school as well as from neighbouring schools. The teachers later implemented new experiences into educational process which resulted in increased attractivity of the subject as well as efficiency of language teaching. One of the long term benefits of the project is the implementation of the new experiences into the documents of the school, such as curriculum and school educational plan. We can say that we managed to achieve the goals of the project and that the realisation of the project was successful and no problems occurred. However, we believe that the realisation of the project is only one of the many steps the school will have to take in order to achieve all its priorities and goals.
