The current trend is an inclusive education and the equality of chances. Our school is among the chain of schools where special education is given to students with special needs and disabilities. We have such students from all over Slovakia. The role of our school is to help these students continue their education and have a smooth return to their ordinary school . One of the focus of our system is to teach English to the children with specific learning disabilities and behavior. The major aim of the project is to increase the motivation of such pupils to learn a foreign language and therefore we need to adopt innovative teaching methods to streamline and help them develop their language skills. Knowledge of foreign languages is considered a key competence of an individual living in the European Union and therefore we must not neglect the fact that it must be taught to the students with special needs and disabilities. It is also that integrated pupils with specific learning disabilities are a major part of our classes so they have every right to acquire knowledge of not only a foreign language, but should also have some know-how of different cultures. Our aim is, therefore to seek such methods and procedures that would enable them to make full use of language learning and thus motivate them to lifelong learning. Our school mandated participation in the project with one teacher, whose role would be to get specific training and knowledge; thereafter training his colleagues on returning from the course, so that they would all work together to implement the latest methods and techniques in the educational process. The intended course provides an opportunity to obtain and exchange knowledge related to the above mentioned subjects at the international level and to establish contacts with special teachers from various countries. The course also allows visits to the classrooms which would give an insight into the English special education system.
