Βουλή των Νέων Αντιπροσώπων
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: Nov 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Aim of this project is to organize and conduct the 1st “ House of the Youth Representatives” conference. As the House of the Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus is the legislative body of the Republic, the “House of the Youth Representatives” will simulate the work of the House of the Representatives and youth will be called to adopt Reports of Parliamentary Committees tackling youth issues. During the convening of the House of the Youth Representatives, Reports will be adopted by youth for youth. These Reports will be officially send after the end of the conference, to all relevant Ministers of the Republic and all technocrats working for youth empowerment, as guidelines to be followed for youth empowerment. The most important aim coming from the “House of the Youth Representatives” conference, is this conference to be institutionalized in Cyprus. In this way, a permanent institutionalized structure will be established for youth of Cyprus. Youth will have each year the space to express their opinion for all youth issues, in political level as well as in decision-making process. In an era of political apathy, the “House of the Youth Representatives” will give young people of Cyprus the opportunity to understand the work of the parliament and parliamentarians in decision-making processes. Youth will be given the chance to express their own perspective and opinion for all issues that matter to them but at the same time, democracy will be empowered since “Youth Representatives” will have the responsibility to take the right decisions for their own future. During the 1st “House of the Youth Representatives” conference, youth will have officially a voice and will be allowed to express their views as youth legislators. Youth Representatives will understand terms such as democracy, freedom of expression, human rights, politics, the importance of discussion, argumentation, negotiation and compromise. The 1st “House of the Youth Representatives” will bring youth in the shoes of Parliamentarians. During the simulation of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, participants will be the “Youth Representatives” of the Parliament. Participants not only will participate as “parliamentarians” during these three days, but will be the “Youth Representatives” with the mandate to write the Reports of the Parliamentary Committees that will be assigned. Therefore, the whole conference will be a simulation but at the same time will be more than just a simulation: it will be the chance of young people to “legislate” for their own future. The 56 Youth Representatives that will participate, will be allocated into 5 Parliamentary Committees. Each Parliamentary Committee will discuss a thematic that is relevant to a youth issue under the pillars that the Committee addresses. Each Committee will produce a Report that will be presented at the Plenary Session of the House of the Youth Representatives. The Report will be discussed and voted from Youth Representative in order to be adopted. If a Report is adopted by the Plenary, it will be send to the relevant Minister of the Government and all technocrats, as the opinion of youth in these specific issues of youth interest, with the mandate to take them into consideration during their relevant work while dealing with youth policies. This project is relevant to Structure Dialogue, since for the first time in Cyprus, decisions and opinions of youth will submitted to the highest political level, such as the President of the House of Representatives and ministers dealing with issues relevant to youth. The House of the Youth Representatives aims at conducting productive discussions in issues that matter to youth of Cyprus and the results that will be addresses through the Reports will be used as the guidelines for youth policies for all the technocrats dealing with youth issues.
