Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Project background:Immanuel-Kant-Gymnasium is dedicated to providing a cosmopolitan and enlightened educational environment focused on developing a sense of global citizenship in our students. We encourage young people to develop critical thinking and to participate with interest, self-confidence and openness in the cultural and spiritual life of a diverse and contemporary society. We have a truly global perspective, engaging students and staff with other cultures and languages to promote the cross-cultural awareness and intercultural competence necessary for success in an age of globalization, and that is needed to counter discrimination and xenophobia. In this spirit, our school offers various opportunities to study and get to know foreign languages and cultures as we continuously expand international contacts with schools in other countries. Immanuel-Kant-Gymnasium puts the teaching of modern language in the foreground, focussing on the development of practical foreign language skills in a context of intercultural knowledge and engagement. Our school aims at encouraging and supporting various programmes that promote direct international experience and opportunities for studying and living abroad for students and teachers.Project objectives:1. ALM training course as a strategic tool for the positive development of the school profile and the improvement of teaching quality2. Support for the professional development of teachers3. Strengthened intercultural orientation of teaching, teachers and students.Participant:The participant teaches English and German, serves as the contact person for stays abroad and is involved in the management of our English departmentProject description: 10 day course: „Advanced Language & Methodology” - English teacher refresher course for Secondary teachersExpected results / impact and long-term benefits:In the programme the teacher will brush up on English skills (e.g. vocabulary and pronunciation), enhance and solidify cultural knowledge and cross-cultural communication skills and strengthen the theory and practice of teaching English. After the programme, the newly acquired knowledge about methodologies and instruction is presented to the teaching staff in a first step. It is then analyzed in an exchange with other English colleagues, tested, evaluated and adapted as needed for our school curriculum. As the quality of language teaching increases, so too will the motivation of our pupils. The school’s fundamental interest in internationalization and intercultural exchange, as well as in projects which promote democratic values, foster an openness to the world and counteract discrimination will be promoted through the participation in an ERASMUS + project. The course includes teachers from different nationalities and facilitates sharing of ideas and experiences with colleagues from other countries. It helps to establish contacts and projects that advance European values and increase the influence of a shared European culture on the part of teachers and students, which is essential to meet the social and political challenges of the globalized world. In addition, the learning mobility of individual teachers is promoted to implement education in a wider European context amongst our teaching staff and to pave way for further international projects.
