Vorbereitung für die Umstellung von Hauptschule zu Neuer Mittelschule
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

In September 2015 our school will become a 'Neue Mittelschule'. This new type of school requires new teaching methods for example teamteaching and teaching in mixed ability classes. Therefore it is very important for our school to provide all pupils with the best linguistic education - not only the less capable pupils, but also the linguistically gifted ones - in order to improve the quality of our school. For the language teachers at our school it's important to attend training courses in an English-speaking country to guarantee the best education because our pupils have to be well prepared to attend high school or to be ready to enter into employment. At our school there are pupils from various cultures. This training course at PilgrimsTM offers the teachers the possibility to raise the participants' awareness and understanding of other cultures and countries. The participation of two English teachers from the secondary school, HS Lembach, in the teacher training course ' How to motivate your students' is of enormous value. The teachers get the opportunity to learn about a multicultural learning environment and different values as building elements of our European identity and heritage. This language course enables the teachers' to enhance their foreign languages competence and get to know new teaching methods and also gain new knowledge about other cultures. Our English teachers can experience the dynamic development and change of the English language firsthand. The summer-course 'How to motivate your students' offered by PilgrimsTM in Canterbury provides teachers with insights on recent motivation research and offers them plenty of practical ideas and strategies that can be used in the classroom. This course is for language teachers who teach at upper-primary and secondary levels. The most important aspects of this course are - motivation as a dynamic concept - the importance of group processes - helping the students deal with the affective side of learning - the teachers behaviour and motivation - the role of attention: insights from neurobiology research As a result teachers will gain a wider understanding of key motivation principles and will be able to design tasks to implement them in their teaching and consequently reflect on them. This training course offers our school the opportunity to build networks with colleagues from all over Europe and to start international projects like etwinning. In future we need highly motivated and strengthened teachers who are ready to meet the challenges of the 'Neue Mittelschule'. The course 'How to motivate your students' guarantees a high quality of teacher training. The quality of our school will subsequently improve because the two participants will share their gained knowledge with their colleagues. The desired outcome of this project is both open-minded teaching staff and pupils who are able and willing to learn in order to achieve the best results in a safe learning atmosphere. It's very important for our school that our pupils develop a sense of belonging to Europe. We want them to become tolerant, open-minded and proud of being a European citizen.
