Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: Dec 1, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The EVS project "From man to man" by Action Reconciliation Service for Peace (ARSP) is a one-year international encounter program with the focus on history, present and the consequences of the National Socialist era in the different european societies. During these 12 month four young people from Germany will support three host projects in the Ukraine, Russia and Belarus. Through the European Voluntary Service in these countries the young Germans can learn the concepts of active citizenship and civil involvement as for a politically stable and peaceful Europe but also for good relations with the neighbouring countries. In addition, they gain skills and abilities for their future professional life. The memories of occupation and extermination policy of the National Socialist regime in the Ukraine, Russia and Belarus are still alive and quite painful. The relationship towards Germany remaines under particular pressure but still very intensive. Volunteers' participation can be seen as a sign of solidarity and Europe's cohesion also at times of crisis or conflict. In this context, we cooperate with our project partners, who take the responsibility for the volunteers and support them with advice and assistance. Especially in the current situation it ist important to support the civil society engagement in these countries. The project "From man to man" contributes to a better understanding and cooperation between Europe and its eastern neighbouring states; serves to strengthen the local civil organisations and to support the people, who are active in social cohesion, dialog and human rights protection. Moreover, the project draws attention to the situation of people who are marginalized or discriminated due to their disability, background, age, or religion and it support their integration into society.
