Von Europa lernen - Aufbau eines neuen Schulprofils mit bilingualem Unterricht, kultureller Bildung und vielfältigen Lehr- und Lernmethoden
Start date: Oct 1, 2016, End date: Mar 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Learning from Europe – the title of our project reflects our central motivation. Our comprehensive school is on its way to establishing a new profile with a modified student-centered teaching culture. All over Europe there are schools that are more experienced than we are. They can show us ways to achieve our goals. What are our main goals? We want to provide the best possible promotion that meets the needs of an increased heterogeneity of our classes. Against the background of their wide range of individual necessities we feel the need to adjust our teaching methods in order to conform to the requirements of our changing society and to find new ways of conveying values such as empathy and tolerance towards the unknown.A total of thirteen teachers have agreed to actively support this process by participating in different information- and training activities – their results to be passed on to the entire teaching staff subsequently. Our efforts focus on two main points:• Bilingual teaching:The bilingual approach provides challenge and support for our linguistically gifted students. They can acquire valuable additional skills for their future careers. In order to succeed in establishing a bilingual approach on a high quality level, we need support for the professional development of our staff. • Meeting the needs of heterogeneity:In future classes, the performance of our pupils will range from children with extra demand of support of various kinds to highly talented and skilled young people. To meet their individual needs and interests, we must develop teaching methods that include every single pupil and that cover all their particular demands. Some Scandinavian countries have successfully been practicing this for years. Internships in their schools could show us how to implement suitable teaching methods and approaches into our school curriculum. Teachers of our preparatory classes will benefit from their stages abroad by gaining an insight into foreign cultures and their educational approaches which could support their effort to integrate the young refugees into the regular German school system as fast as possible. So the European training courses and internships are an essential condition for introducing modern training tools and practices and will thus strengthen our teaching culture.
