Volunteers in school are cool!
Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Oct 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

In our organization, Public Institute of Culture, Youth and Sports Litija, unit Youth Center Litija, we are preparing new EVS project called Volunteers in school are cool! in cooperation with 3 different local primary schools. In this project we are planning to host 4 EVS volunteers from different European countries for 10 months. The main responsibility of volunteers will be participating in educational process and all other activities in primary schools and assistance at various school subjects. 4 days per week volunteer will work in primary school, one day per week and during school holidays they will work in Youth center Litija. Selected volunteers will be working with two different target groups, in primary school children are between 6 and 14 years of age, and in the Youth Center with young people between 15 and 30 years. It is expected that volunteer is communicative, open and conscientious and has a passion for working with children and young people. It is also a unique opportunity for volunteers who would like to become professors in their future to experience an alternative education practice before or between their studies.School work will include assistance within regular hours of foreign language (English, German, Spanish), within hours of physical education and art classes, within hours of household, geography and history. According to volunteers' interests and expressed desire they will be able to participate in other school subjects, or they will be able to carry out activities outside regular school lessons - organization and execution of events for children from the school, such as cookery workshops, sports activities, art activities, music workshops, amateur theatre, ... Volunteers will also take part in cultural and sports days, in school in the nature and spend time with them during the prolonged stay (After stay lessons). Through a relaxed and informal socializing with students volunteer will gain experience working with them, he or she will improve communication in foreign languages and strengthen other core competences. Children will have an opportunity to come in contact with a foreign culture. Volunteers will also be able to compare the educational systems of different European countries. For our environment this kind of project is not new. Children and young people are accustomed to the presence of foreigners in their everyday school life and at different leisure activities. Through such projects our pupils and other visitors of our Youth centre can learn solidarity and tolerance, we are encouraging international cooperation and integration. We are also helping to develop a format of involvement of non-formal education methods and volunteers into our formal education institutions. One of the aims of the project is lift the educational process at higher level in creative and pleasant atmosphere, promoting international mobility, EU citizenship, cultural diversity, decreasing unemployment rate among young people and including people with less opportunities. All of the aims above will be achieved through volunteers' participation and involvement in both organizations - in primary school and in Youth Center. In the Youth Center he or she will be able to perform similar activities to those in school, the only real difference is the target group. The volunteer will have to be able to adapt content for different age groups.
