Volunteers at Stinsen
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Municipality of Mellerud will recriut two volunteers to work in our youth club Stinsen for one year. This is a continuation of earlier projects when we have had volunteers working in our front office with tourism issues and of an earlier exchange with Tipperary Regional Youth Service. Our aim is to, through the volunteers' work motivate and inspire young people in Mellerud for international work. The volunteers will show our young people that there is a world outside our own little town, apart from just being a tourist. They will also bring their own skills and experiences to Stinsen, thereby broadening the scope of activities there. We have selected two volunteers, both in their 20s, one from Ireland and one from Serbia. Both are interested in sports in we feel that both will be able to take on the role of role models for our young people. The volunteers will be placed at Stinsen, our youth club during the 12 months they are here. They will be part of the activities there and also be given the chance to run their own projects with the young people visiting Stinsen. As Stinsen is linked to the secondary and the upper secondary school they will also spend time there, with the aim to be a link between the schools and Stinsen. The volunteers will also be given the opportunity to present their home countries and the EU to students at both schools. The main work method will be to work actively with youth participation and involvement. We think that the project will make our young people more a part of Europe and more internationally orienteered. They will gain knowledge about Europe, about two countrues Swedish people seldom travel too, and that there is an opportunity for young people to go abroad as volunteers. We also hope that the volonteers contributions will broaden the scope of activities at Stinsen. We also hope that the project will be a stepping stone for further collaborations between the three organisations involved.
