Volunteering Validation Highway
End date: Aug 29, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Volunteering Validation Highway (VVH) project focuses on the use of social media (Facebook, linkedIN etc.) and other online tools (e.g. learning platforms) in the recognition and validation of volunteers’ skills. The aim is to investigate tools used around Europe, share information and learners' experiences about them and their needs for validation, and provide recommendations for new tools. The project also includes awareness-raising, partly among groups of volunteers under-represented in adult learning and volunteering (e.g. seniors, early school leavers, people with disabilities etc.), whose employability may be improved through validation processes. The VVH project sets off from a quality perspective: it addresses issues concerning both learning (guidance, quality of learning, learners' perceptions of validation etc.) and its validation, and the practical organisation of on-line validation. Learning issues will be approached from a European perspective focusing on compatibility with existing European tools for validation such as the Europass and the European Qualification Framework. As a result, the project will provide a web page with information about validation in a volunteering context, volunteers' experiences, links to a variety of tools used around Europe with summaries in English, and recommendations on how to best use web-based tools for the validation of volunteers' learning. The project will also contribute to partners' and their learners' perceptions of the validation of volunteers' skills and to partners' abilities to organise validation processes for their learners and other volunteers. As an indirect result both during the project and especially after, many volunteers shall be able to make their skills more visible for employability purposes.
