Volunteering in Salzburg
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Oct 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "Volunteering in Salzburg" consists of two EVS activities. Youthcenter Corner was going Wiebke Heiden, a volunteer from Germany who was about to finish her A-levels. ICNM was hosting Erminio Laudani from Italy and Gemma Palacio Peón, a long-term unemployed volunteer from Spain. Our objective is to develop solidarity and to fasciliate understanding and tolerance by hosting Euopean volunteers. We think that with active partizipation we can follow our aim and we can influence everyone involved positively. The volunteers had many opportunities to show and experience the positive sides of intercultural diversity which influenced the people they met in the host organisations, the sourroundings, the family and friends, and of course the volunteers themselves. The volunteers who were doing their EVS in Salzburg were mainly together with up to twelve other volunteers from other European countries. Mostly they met once a month at akzente at our so-called „EVS breakfast“ or at freetime activities. As they met each other regulary they could spend time with each other, talk to each other, and like this identify common values with other young people from different countries in spite of their cultural differences. Also in the projects themselves the volunteers had the possibility to get to know people form other countries – Austrians as well as people from other parts of the world. Because of this the volunteers were also stimulated to reflect on the essential characteristics of European society. As all of them had the possibilities to start own projects within the host organizations they also learned to be creative and active and understood that they play an active role - in their projects, in their communities and in society. As all of the host organizations were and are open minded and eager to host a volunteer from another European country they do not only discover Europe but also aim to build a common Europe. The volunteers also had the possibility to show their creativity and their entrepreneurship as they had the possibility to start their own projects – within the host organizations but also outside of their organizations.
