Volunteering for New Competences and Learning Experience
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Dec 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

18 EVS volunteers from all around Europe come together to join the activities of Lithuanian Public libraries and social care institutions. The principle aims of the project are: * To support volunteers in the acquiring (improving) of new competences (knowledge, skills and attitudes) - with the background aim to ease their integration into the labor market, formal education or other fields in the future. * To provide the professionals of the receiving organizations with opportunities to broaden the cope of their work and methods thus facilitating quality and innovative approaches towards the immediate target groups. * To help volunteers and organizations (staff that is involved) improve their foreign language skills (namely English and Lithuanian) * To raise awareness of and tolerance to other cultures through linking people from different countries working in the same institution with one mission. With different volunteer tasks in each Organization volunteers aim their efforts towards united goals creating open, tolerant, and educated society. EVS in this project contributes to the development of the local community in a broader sense: receiving organizations broaden their working methodologies, volunteers are learning to live, learn, respect and help, local people can observe and participate in the life of “alternative” youth. These aims are pursued by creating a learning forum both for the coming volunteers and the local community (youth) in general. Methods of non-formal education are applied. The project activities take place in organizations based in Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Plungė, Utena, Varėna, Prienai, Zarasai which jointly host 18 EVS volunteers. Volunteering will last 8-10 months. 12 sending partner organizations from 9 different countries (Russia, Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania and Armenia) and two different regions take part in the project.
