Volunteering Empowerment
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Jul 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Volunteering Empowerment is a project of three months of duration with which we received four young people with less opportunities from Irland, Belgium, Italy and Norway for one month with two objectives. The first objective was to give the opportunity to young people who have difficult access to these programmes to strengthen their selfconfidence, gain security in themselves, acquire new personal and professional competencies with the aim to alleviate the access to labour market. Also the aim was to motivate other young people who are in the similiar situation to participate in voluntery activities and educational programmes abroad. These are four volunteers who we received and their conditions: - Shauna, from Belgium. A 18 years old girl with problems of adaptation, whose family is problematic (his father is in the prison) and she left her studies very early. - Stephen, from Ireland. A boy who has problems with justice in his home country and who has only basic studies. - Miriam, from Italy. A young girl who is unemployed for a long time and lives in one of the most unprivileged areas of Sicily. - Hue, from Norway. A girl who is originally from Vietnam (ethnic minority) and whose adaptation into society is so complicated not only from the perspective of culture shock but also her family members moved to Norway separately. Between the activities, which the volunteers did, were basically tasks of sensitization about voluntary actions and promotion of European Voluntary Service program (EVS). Referring to this point, they accompanied us to schools, universities and other institutions to share their experiences and explain the importance of the role of a volunteer in society, non-governmental institutions etc. Furthermore, they tried to convince to the other motivated people to be a volunteer regardless their personal situation. In this sense, they also participated in different stands with us where they had the opportunity to share their experiences personally with other people from Malaga. The second part of their voluntary action was support our institution in different workshops such as recycling or English conversations. Lastly, they were given the opportunity to collaborate with other institutions from Malaga which they chose from network of associations with which we have closed relations. We consider that we reached our goals which we set before. All of them they have improved their competencies at a professional and personal level, especially we should mention social abilities. The people from Malaga became awarded of the importance of voluntary actions. They were given information about programme Erasmus +. Also these volunteers motivated young people with difficulties to participate in this European project with the intention to get off of inclusion from this profile. We think that this project has a big impact not only on volunteers but also on our association and public in general in which the volunteers were contact in during their stay. Furthermore, two from four volunteers said that they would like to study again and two of them, Miriam and Stephan are going to search for some project of EVS for a longer time. They did not know this programme before and they considered it as a beneficial and great experience. In a short or some time we think that participation of these young people from environment with fewer opportunities will have positive impact on them personally but also on receiving and hosting associations working with EVS programmes. But also it will be positive for local residents who could see that these people go ahead with educative programmes which are adjusted to particular needs for each volunteer.
