Volunteering and new educational approaches in Colombia
Start date: Mar 1, 2012,

Artemisszió Foundation (Hungary) is NGO aiming at fostering intercultural dialogue with a special focus on the social integration of marginalized youth (socially disadvantaged, Roma, migrant youth). Together with, ICYE Colombia, we aim to realize an EVS project focusing on innovative educational methods for the empowerment of marginalized youth. 1 Hungarian volunteer will undertake a 6-month service in Bogota taking part in social voluntary work of ICYE, with a strong focus on educational activities for marginalized youth. A part of the project will take place in Bosa, a very poor area of Bogota, the Colombian capital. Indigenous groups, peasants, black communities, and thousands of people from different ethnic origins live there. The volunteer will be involved in activities related to youth work (individual counselling and group training related to leadership skills, peaceful conflict resolution, sexual and drug education) in order to prepare young people to become leaders in their own peer groups. The volunteer will also have possibility to propose educational activities and specific projects to enrich the activities of the organization. Upon return from Colombia, the volunteer will have the possibility to become involved in the youth projects and in global education activities of Artemisszió, in order to help the integration of socially disadvantaged youth in Hungary and to share experiences with the general public about having lived as an EVS volunteer in a country of the global South.
