Volunteering a way to the future
Start date: Jul 1, 2011,

'VOLUNTEERING A WAY TO THE FUTURE' aims to give Stepan, Sarah, Alvaro, and Paulina an experience of European Voluntary Service promoting Multi-cultural and intercultural learning experience and European citizenship. The main themes of the activity are European awareness, non formal learning by working in a multicultural youth centre (social inclusion), and thus promoting intercultural learning and service (solidarity). The concrete activity of the volunteer is to carry out activities in Don Bosco Youthnet and Don Bosco youth centre: 1. Their primary task will be in a Youth Centre. Together with Don Bosco's staff they carry out activities. Their other task is to carry out programmes for school children in the project at and outside schools. These programmes are on the basis of prolonged school activities and community school (Bredeschool) activities. Overblijf (during the lunch break) will be one of the daily activities of the volunteer. 2. Receive the guests (Groups) to Don Boscohuis (Don Bosco Youthnet) and see to their accommodation and assisting the staff members with programs for this group. The volunteers will be supported by Don Bosco staff and qualified persons. The volunteers are expected to work six hours a day and then have free time for personal reflection, evaluation, language lerning, and recreative activities. We also consider knowing The Netherlands and its culture as part of the work. The work and free time for a week will be something like: 30 hours of work time, 5 hours will be for communitarian activities and the rest of the time will be free time.
