Volunteer in motion : dive through diversity and risk education
Start date: Jan 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

In “Estia Agios Nikolaos” runs an organized and fully equipped pottery workshop from September until June. On a daily base except weekends we work altogether, our residents, volunteers under the guidance of qualified personnel. Volunteers come from different countries and they are trained by qualified personnel. The same for the jewelry workshop that is open from September until June. Garden workshop runs during the whole year, in an area of 28 acres, in which they are cultivated vegetables, fruits and ornamental plants. In addition we have an organized greenhouse. The garden workshop is operated every day during the weekdays, with people with disabilities together with volunteers under the guidance of qualified personnel.Other activities that take place in “Estia Agios Nikolaos” during the whole year are music therapy, athletic activities and cooking. In these activities are participating people with special needs and volunteers under the guidance of external coworkers. During the summer that the pottery and jewelry workshop stops, volunteers, personnel and our residents go swimming at Galaxidi’s beaches. One of our targets is to make every member of our community feel Estia like its own home and to support each other. We want to prove that people with and without special needs, and also people from different countries and cultural backgrounds can live and evolve together as human beings in mutually enriching way. Other important targets is establishing links with the local community and the personal development of the volunteers. Our volunteers learn to live together with people with special needs in this way they learn a lot for themselves. After one year living in Estia they get skills that are going to be useful in their lives while at the same time they become responsible and active members in the society.
