Voľnočasové aktivity pre znevýhodnenú mládež v Baku
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Oct 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project Free-time activities for disadvantaged youth in Baku aims to offer an opportunity of meaningful usage of free-time to children and youth at the Maryam Centre, who miss support and accompanying in their own families. The Centre currently provides basic education to approximately 450 students. However, children and young people need accompanying after school, as well. Unfortunately, they often do not find it in their own families due to numerous social problems. Therefore, Centre Maryam finds it very important to provide necessary accompanying within after-school activities. With help of two Slovak volunteers, the project plans to organize tutorial classes, seminars and workshops of practical skills, games and sports. Objective of these activities is to improve knowledge from obligatory subjects, increase awareness about youth problematics and develop practical skills within workshops. Expected outcomes include improvement of students' school results, increased number of students informed about fundamental youth problematics, acquirement of practical skills and all of that in order to achieve personal development and good mental health of the recipients. The project also aims to support social linkages among children and young people and strengthen their sense for teamwork. Implementation of the project will increase life quality of disadvantaged Azerbaijani youth, which is a desired outcome on local level. Long-lasting contribution of the project is creation of free-time activities structure on daily basis, which will be developed by Centre Maryam in the future. The activities will be realized by two participants of EVS in a close cooperation with local volunteers, in order to increase sustainable potential of after-school educational system. One-year voluntary experience of Slovak volunteers in Azerbaijan will strengthen linkages among citizens of the EU and Eastern Partnership countries. At the same time, it will increase awareness of local people about the EU values, which will be promoted by Slovak volunteers at the place of project implementation.
