Vocational Rehabilitation of People with Disabilities

The project will offer a holistic and multidisciplinary rehabilitation programme for disabled persons to enhance the range of services that are available to them. The project's rehabilitative programme is a cooperative endeavour between healthcare services, social services and employment agencies in each partner country. A survey will be undertaken of the specific needs of disabled persons and of current practice responses to these needs. Identified gaps in service provision will be addressed by the project's construction of a comprehensive multi-disciplinary approach to meeting these needs. Specific tools will be selected to support, guide and train disabled persons in an effort to bridge the gap between their identified needs and what is currently available to them. Tools will include personal development computer software, practice simulation training methods and job guidance/coaching through supported employment. Tools will be piloted with groups of up to 20 clients/disabled persons in the partner countries. The combined expertise of the different project participants, from various sectors, will be utilised to ensure that comprehensive and useful results are collected through the pilot process. A comparative analysis of pilot results will inform adaptation of the tools on offer to the target group. Continuous evaluation of project deliverables will take place throughout the course of the project and dissemination will be ongoing via the web and through the publication of a project handbook.
