Vivre en citoyens européens
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The elementary school Condat-en-Combrailles, a small rural school with two classes, is creating a European project opening for students. In fact, the instructors wish to provide an international element for the school to end isolation and provide students with the opportunity to explore new cultures. For this project, we will participate in programs such as “eTwinning” to correspond with children of similar age groups, exchanging emails and letters in English about everyday life, in order to enrich the students' linguistic and cultural learning. Throughout the school year, the instructors will also be focusing on the birth of the European Union (and the events that followed), as well as the history and the geography of the various countries the European Union is comprised of. Various demonstrations taking place during this European itinerary will be presented to families and to the general public as exhibitions presenting the results of our correspondence in the form of posters, videos, and a small “museum” of objects that were exchanged with the other school. We hope to first and foremost improve our students' competence in English, history, and geography and as well as increase the ease of using technology as a form of communication. We also hope to kindle their curiosity for European studies and for them to develop tolerance as well as open minds. This project will also promote group effort in an educational team setting. On a wider scale, we are counting on a positive change of opinion considering European affiliations of the local population as well as a stronger ability to welcome new individuals to the community (some British and Dutch families in the region are currently having trouble feeling integrated).
