The OECD spread during CERI (Conference on Innovation, Governance and Reform in Education-Paris, 2014) evidence on how schools have to cope with diversity in the future. They noticed that diversity in education is one of the future challenges for schools. There will be a new innovative curriculum, methodology and didactics In-Service Training concerning diversity developed in the project. The international workshops (WS) and conferences (CO) offer the possibility to work on new methodology and didactic in order to enhance diversity as a resource in the lessons. The objective of the project is to have qualified “Vienna Diversity Coaches” (VDC) who will offer In-Service Training all over Austria.1. Content and background; The current challenges are: - Schools have to integrate diversity in their school models; - Teachers and students are disconnected; - Practice, research and policy are disconnected; The OECD noticed that:- Teachers are not equipped to incorporate local diversity into their practice; - Schools are not ready to realize the integration of diversity in their models; - Schools and teachers are not ready to implement what is asked; - Support organizations are not ready to support the schools - they don’t have the right knowledge; they are not ready to provide IST.2. Objectives; The European Office of the Vienna Board of Education wants to provide within the project “Vielfalt als Chance” the chance for the consortiums partners to be educated in international workshops and conferences in order to fulfill the requirements of the OECD. 3. Number and profile of participants; The consortium consists of 10 schools Secondary 1 from Vienna. 3 teacher per school, 10 principals. 2 staff members of the European Office (EUB) for each activity and 6 members of school authority will participate in the WS and CO. The teachers participating in the WS and CO have on one hand long time experience dealing with diversity and on the other hand young teachers who are challenged to deal with the topic in the daily life. The European Office is responsible to support the participants during the WS and CO, and they will themselves be qualified as VDC. 4. Activities: The project-activities are conferences and workshops. The conferences offer the participants a platform where they can exchange experiences content-wise on a theoretical level and have the possibility to listen to international experts concerning the topic. Within the WS the teachers are acting as learners as well as as teachers by using the new methodology in form of microteaching amongst each other. They are asked for their expertise in form of feedback in order to implement and transfer the methods and tools in practical ways. The participants will in order to envisage the impact and results of the project pilot the new methods at their own schools.5. Carrying out the project: The European Office staff will be part of the project-management and will supervise the work, the progress and will collect feedback (SWOT-analysis) directly at the WS and CO. All participants have to report (written) about their experiences with the new methodology to the project-management. The project-management will make sure, that the objectives to develop new methodology and didactics for the lessons and that the future organization of productive WS will be reached. The reports will be published and do not only provide help working with diversity but also are the basis for future in-service trainings for teachers in Vienna.6. Results/Impact: - New curricula, - methodology and didactics, - In-Service Training. VDC – Vienna Diversity Coaches will offer trainings all over Austria. The project offers as result and impact the possibilities for teachers not only to compare and study but also to get impulses to form new concepts and ideas and uses diversity as a resource. The project-activities shall offer a more productive working climate dealing with diversity and improve the success of each single pupil. Further it offers the possibility to get to know new educational, vocational and working-conditions in a globalized world and helps the students to get acquainted to live in a united Europe. The project will help to implement new visions and objectives in a new school-culture. 7. Long-term benefits: The higher qualification should help to enhance diversity as a positive resource in school daily routine. The principals and the school-authorities are also asked to support those new experiences and skills in order to improve school-quality. The participants will introduce their new knowledge in workshops, “Dienstbesprechungen”, conferences, internal-in-service trainings at schools around Vienna. In-service-training in general and especially dealing with diversity doesn’t only strengthen the teachers but also influences the dynamic of the whole school. The motto is- use diversity as chance to form pupils to tolerant, educated and open young humans in a common Europe.
