Vers une école ouverte sur l'Europe
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our establishment is a school of 8 classes welcoming 200 pupils, situated in Clermont-Ferrand. The proposal of mobility within the framework of a project allowing to promote the European opening of our school had a stimulating effect on the educational team of our establishment. Our closely knit team consists of eight teachers motivated to carry out a project with a European dimension. Six of us ask for a mobility. To make our school more successful, we are going to reorganize our school project around two main cultural axis: - Improvement of our pupils’ skills in foreign language, - Development of their curiosity and their opening to Europe. To formulate the needs for our establishment, we studied its environment. It is situated in a district of social and cultural diversity including low income families, most of them in great socioeconomic difficulties. Noticing this diversity, we believe that proposing a school project turned to Europe can federate the energies of the educational community. The lack of confidence of the team in its skills in foreign languages is also one of the components of these needs. We thus established three main objectives: - Update the teachers’ skills and knowledge in English with an adapted training course in a country of the European Community. - Revitalize and improve the teamwork by carrying out actions centered on teaching English to the primary school pupils. - Fully live an intercultural experience to successfully integrate the international dimension into the learnings. To reach these goals, we are considering the following actions: - Establish a correspondence around a federative cultural theme, "traditional games and nursery rhymes" with a class of another country of the European community. - Form within the framework of a mobility integrating specific courses adapted to our needs. - Develop an adapted programme proposing activities in the other disciplinary domains. - Establish a European day of athletics: the Olympiads. - Expose our correspondences with the partner classes in the community center Anatole France. We also want to make this project known. The local community center Anatole France, as well as the City hall and the team of the regional education authority are our partners. We shall communicate with them throughout this project. They will help us make our project known to our institutions, to the city and the district, to the parents and our colleagues of the other schools. To pilot this project, we defined a methodology of follow-up and management, which is a schedule of the activities listing the actions upstream and downstream to the mobility and the regular assessments as well as the precise tools allowing to measure and objectively report the effects of this project. We expect from this experience a renewed dynamism of the team by an adapted linguistic training and followed exchanges with our European correspondents. We also expect an improvement of the school image by giving it a European dimension. The most expected effect concerns our pupils. By this commitment in the program Eramus +, we want, a bigger success at school and a strong implication of the pupils in the construction of their European citizenship.
