Verbesserung der Unterrichtsqualität im Fach Englisch in unserer inklusiven Schule durch Erweiterung der Sprachkenntnisse und Methodenkompetenzen
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

In our comprehensive school with Year 5 to 10 we prepare our students for the different levels of graduation that can be achieved here, as well as for the possibility of continuing their education at another school after Year 10 in order to go to university later. Even students with special needs in the areas of speech and language, learning, social and emotional development and autism are inclusively taught here. In order to cope with the heterogeneity of our study groups, a high level of motivation and competence of our teachers is essential. With the increasing globalization and in the interest of a united Europe, we highly appreciate the English language as a means of communication. To promote the openness of our students to the world and to support international understanding, it is particularly important to us that each student of our school is able to communicate in English. To support this request, we offer the 7th year to participate in a one-week language course by native speakers (English in Action) and in Year 8 we offer a study trip to England. We hope to gain an international partner school in the future to yet increase the student’s motivation to learn English. To ensure the quality of English teaching at our school, our colleagues regularly attend advanced training courses. In this regard, the IQSH offers many good options and in March all of our English teaching staff will participate in a two-day training on dealing with heterogeneous learning groups. However, to me an advanced training course in an English speaking country appears to be particularly intense and effective to re-motivate and inspire colleagues for their work. In this way they can at the same time brush up their English skills, learn new methods of teaching and update their knowledge of contemporary Britain. We would like to send Mrs. Neumann, head of the staff of teachers of English, for a week or two to Glasgow, to learn the storyline method there. Mrs. Schulz, vice head of the staff of teachers of English, we would like to send to Edinburgh for a week. She will get to know different teaching methods, develop cultural awareness and understanding of contemporary Britain and work with authentic materials. Both teachers will thereby enhance their English language skills, hopefully establish international contacts and return to school with new motivation and inspiration for their job. They will pass on their experiences to their colleagues and hopefully motivate them to integrate new methods into their teaching. In the long term, we hope to build an international school partnership and establish a wide variety of methods to meet our heterogeneous learning groups and to ensure that all students learn to speak English.
