Search for European Projects

Βελτίωση ποιότητας και ελκυστικότητας στην Εκπαίδευση
Start date: Dec 1, 2015, End date: Nov 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Junior High School of Gavalou decided to participate in the present action by sending two teachers to a course about the innovative teaching methods proposed by foreign universities/institutes on various subjects and mainly foreign languages. Our school considers the participation in the specific action of high importance, since the whole personnel of our school will have the opportunity to be trained by the participating teachers. In this way, new ideas, modern teaching tools and up-to-date methods will be introduced to the classroom leading to the best results possible. Both of the applying teachers, apart from their teaching duties, enjoy participating in various projects (environmental, cultural, health, career) in cooperation with the students and local authorities/ institutes. Moreover, they have taken part in numerous school visits/ actions, seminars and meetings. Five years ago the school took part in a Comenius project along with five European countries under the coordination of the applying teachers. This Comenius experience, which was crowned with huge success, marked the opening of our school towards the European community, establishing in this way communication links among the students and teachers of schools from different countries. The aims of our project involve the teachers’ contact with innovative, cross-curricular and cross-cultural teaching methods, the exchange of views with colleagues from other countries, the improvement of linguistic skills, the acquisition of cultural experiences through the contact with foreign cultures and finally, the transfer of the above experiences in the Greek classroom. At the same time, our school will have the chance to cross its narrow, local borders and, in this way, to acquire a European profile. Last but not least, the students will be motivated for learning foreign languages and using up-to-date technology tools. The applying teachers, after expressing their desire to join the present project, discussed the matter with the Head teacher of the Junior High School and obtained his assent. Their next step will be to submit their application to the national Institute of European projects. In case the proposal is approved, a three-member committee will be set up and the personnel of the school as well as the parents and the guardians’ board will be informed about the project. The teachers themselves will seek for partners/institutes in France and Malta and they will deal with any practical matters may arise. The teachers will be prepared by introducing themselves to the language, history and customs of the host countries. Finally, during the visit abroad, a continuous contact with the school will be maintained. We consider the dissemination of the results of the project towards various education institutes and local authorities of high importance. In order to achieve the above aim, the teachers have planned a number of actions addressing to all those involved in education matters in our area. The applying educators will enrich their knowledge on subjects they teach and they will be informed about pioneering learning methods. They will transfer these experiences in the Greek classroom and, as a result, the lesson will become more interesting and of more advanced level. In this way, the students will find the learning of foreign languages a more exciting process. Through the presentation of the acquired experiences in meetings, seminars, newspapers and local T.V channels more colleagues will be offered the chance to come in touch with the European dimension of education and they will be urged to undertake similar projects in the future. The general positive impact of the project will be directly noticed within the limits of the school. In addition, a long-term benefit will be pursued through the cooperation with schools and colleagues from France, Malta and other foreign countries within the framework of an Erasmus + project concerning mobility of schools.
