We are a public kindergarten-unit in Asker kommune, consisting of two kindergartens with one combined management; Holmen and Landøya. The kindergartens have a total of 154 children between the age of 1-6 years old divided on 9 different departments, and with about 44 employees who wish to participate in this project with our pedagogic leaders. We wish to expand our competence and learn more about documenting the children’s knowledge and experiences in the different subject. We need tools that can help assuring the children’s participation in the documentation process. We have not yet been able to find good tools and methods for this in Norway, but we know they exist in Scotland. Mindstretchers talking and thinking floorbooks is one method we want our employees to both learn in practices, and for them to learn the theory behind it. We believe the method will give the employees more knowledge about how they can communicate with children to be able to document their knowledge, for then creating pedagogical programs made after the children’s needs. We have a desire to send six of our teachers that has the responsibility of managing the children groups, individual children with special needs, and the department team on conferences. This is teachers with a solid experience from kindergarten and with the relevant education. The plan is a five days stay in Perth (Scotland), where it will be a combination of theoretical and practice. Because the participants will get to experience the use of Mindstrechers tools/methods will our teachers be able to use their new competences in their daily pedagogical work with the children groups. In addition they will be able to implement the theory and tools in the department’s and unit’s plans. A long-term effect will be to transfer new knowledge to the parents through meetings with parents, to the rest of the employees in the unit through employee-meetings/ planning days. In addition they will be able to share their experiences with Hval Gård kindergarten, which already has taking this method in use and have their own experiences with this program, and also share with other kindergartens in Asker Kommune through a common competence plans.
