VegInternational Europe Seminar

EVU, European Vegetarian Union, will organize a 4 day seminar on international work with youth, strategic partnership building and EVS. As an umbrella organization of vegetarian non-profit organisations, we notice that our work with youth is limited to our own borders. Each of our member organizations has a youth programme, but there is hardly any international co-operation between these organizations active in the field of sustainability and youth. Hardly any of our member organizations knows about EVS, while we could imagine many of them could offer a good place for young people to gain professional experience while contributing to a social and sustainable cause. Is it fear of the unknown? Could language obstacles be a problem? Or is it mainly lack of time and knowledge about the positive impact of international mobilities and EVS that keeps these organizations away from international adventures? In this seminar, which we will organize in spring 2015 in Brussels, we will invite 35 staff members and volunteers of different member organizations to train them about the opportunities to internationalize their work with youth and to improve the quality of their youthwork. We will work on methods to cooperate between our organizations and other organizations in the youth field. During this training we will discover the opportunities of the EVS-programme, by showing successful case studies and inviting former EVS-ers and organizations who already have experience with hosting and sending EVS volunteers. We will use interactive methods and informal learning to trigger the participants to think outside their comfort zone and to embrace the international experience within their work with youth. The results of this seminar will be documented and distributed on our website and through our network. With this seminar we would like to inspire the youth workers of the participating organizations to go international and hope to lay the basis for future cooperation and partnerbuilding for a strategic partnership and/or EVS-projects.
