UYK - Uudistutaan Yhdessä Kansainvälisesti
Start date: 01 Jun 2016,
End date: 31 May 2017
This is the first time our secondary school applies for a grant from EU for a project to train its staff in another country. Neither have the teachers applied for the Comenius individual teacher mobility grants previously. We hope that this is a start to the internationalisation of the whole school and that more teachers are willing to participate in professional training abroad. Our school gives bilingual education in English and Finnish, and therefore it is vital for the teachers to improve their English language and pedagogical skills as CLIL-teachers. The second objective of this project is to improve the curriculum and increase the attractiveness of our high school e.g. by observing good educational practises and methods in other schools abroad and through exchanging information between teachers and education staff from various countries during the training. Since one third of the pupils in our secondary school do not speak Finnish as their mother tongue, another aim of this training project is to better address the demands of multicultural classrooms along with inclusive and special needs groups. We are applying funding for the following mobilities: three teacher training courses for teachers of different subjects in Great Britain and one job shadowing period in Sweden. As a result of the project we hope that the participants' language and other professional skills and motivation will have improved, and that they are better equipped and qualified for international co operation and projects in the future. We also hope to receive fresh ideas to improve our school and make it more attractive for students and staff. We would like to have more qualified CLIL-teachers. The desired impact of the project is to make its title come true: UYK / Uudistutaan Yhdessä Kansainvälisesti = Let's innovate ourselves internationally!
