The main goal of this project is to get tools to integrate the new ideas of the 2016 curricula (comprehensive school and senior secondary school) into our work in class. The courses have been chosen to cater for the needs of the different age groups and subject areas in Viikki Teacher Training School. The new curricula put emphasis on - digital learning environments in a global network of learners- broad-based learning- creating an active network of international contacts- intercultural communicationThe courses focus on themes listed above and have a hands-on approach, thus giving us practical ideas of how to implement the changes. The areas we focus on are all interlinked. Digital learning environments will be the key tool when working to achieve the other goals: establishing intercultural communication and understanding, international networking and broad-based learning. We also believe that both students and teachers trainees will be motivated by the more active use of digital learning environments. Gaining a better understanding of digital learning environments is crucial also because the new curriculum has a very strong emphasis on media literacy. Gaining intercultural competence and tools for intercultural communication is important when building new contacts. However, we also need a better understanding of these things on a daily basis as our school is getting more and more multi-cultural. Our students speak more than 20 different languages as their native tongue and come from many different cultural backgrounds. The teachers applying for an Eramus+ grant are already involved in different international networks in the field of education. They have language skills that will enable them to take an active role in the courses they are taking. What’s more, they are committed to passing on the ideas gained during the training. The teachers involved teach different age groups and subjects, so the ideas will spread more widely among the staff and teacher trainees. As a teacher training school we are committed to carrying out development projects and testing out new approaches and teaching methods.To do so, we need the expertise influence and ideas from the outside.
