Uuden opetussuunnitelman työstäminen Vanttilan koulussa
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Five carefully chosen teachers from Vanttila school in Espoo, Finland will take part in different types of Erasmus+ teacher training courses within the EU. The aim of this project is to strengthen the teachers' professional competences and provide them with the appropriate tools in preparation for the work and the development to be done on the new national curriculum. The following aspects have been taken into account when choosing the most useful courses for the participants and the school they represent: the versatility of the course contents, a selection of courses covering a wide range of subject areas, the backgrounds of the participating teachers and their personal and individual fields of interest. Special attention has been paid to considering how these courses will benefit the planning and the implementation of the new curriculum as well as how the school as an institution will benefit from the courses. The core values of our school emphasize the importance of sustainable living, collaboration between the different members of the school, and the sense of belonging to a community. Developing our ICT-skills (we act as a pilot school in an ICT-related project in Espoo) and bringing an international dimension to our school serve as the main areas of improvement. During the next school year we will conduct a larger self-assessment project for our city which will cover all the activities within our school. The new curriculum emphasizes the student's own active role as a learner and the use of versatile teaching methods. The intention is to develop our learning environments and come up with different solutions on how to find new learning environments outside the school premises. The participants in the teacher training courses include three class teachers and two subject teachers from our school who all have their own personal assets and goals concerning the courses. The teachers represent different teams within our school which enables them to disseminate their new knowledge and skills amongst the people in their own team, thus facilitating the spreading of information to the whole staff. The courses will give us the opportunity to find new ways and ideas for international co-operation, and enhance our skills in the fields of ICT, sustainable living, and creative teaching methods. In addition, we will familiarize ourselves with new ways of communicating with people who represent different cultures, and see the richness in different cultures that will benefit our whole school. We are aiming at raising our students to respect cultures that are different from ours, and raise them to become real world citizens. The teachers will improve their language skills during the courses. An important part of participating in a course is to find new international contacts in order to create and plan future international projects together. Finding such contacts is very difficult without these opportunites that the courses arranged abroad offer us. The knowledge that we will gain on the teacher training courses will benefit our school community on many levels and different subject areas and the acquired skills can be incorporated into our school's actions reaching far into the future.
