Using E-learning in the classroom
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

More often than not, the traditional teaching of specialty classes within school vocational education cannot provide access to the great bulk of audiovisual educational material, in addition to the fact that it lacks flexibility in getting the student energetically involved in the learning process, and that it cannot be individualized. These needs have prompted the 1st Laboratory Centre of Western Athens to participate with a group of six (6) educators in the ITC (International Training Centre) five-day seminar entitled “Using E-Learning in the Classroom”. The aims of the said program are the empowerment of the role undertaken by the 1st Laboratory Centre of Western Athens, boosting its openness and interaction with other European organizations, the formulation of practical ideas for the purposes of exploiting the ICT subject in class, the integration of a greater number of subjects in learning, and the individualization of teaching. The factors that determined the selection of the educators who would take part were their administrative working position ( most of them were head of specialized laboratories ) , ability in computer operation, accuracy and fluency in the English language as well as willingness to communicate and collaborate. Throughout the seminar participants familiarized mainly with moodle ( a distance learning programme ) with other computer tools that can be effectively used in the classroom and with pedagogical procedures that contribute to the former’s extensive adjustment in class. Following the seminar applications in the classes of our school and communication of the results of the programme to other educational institution took place. More specifically: - Moodle distance- learning platforms were designed and applied by the participants of the seminar, concerning some of the school subjects they teach. In addition, a web server was installed in order to support future moodle presentation of subjects. - In terms of the diffusion of the programme a 15-hour seminar was organized and materialized by the 1st Laboratory Centre of West Attica which involved both the actual presence and simultaneously moodle distance learning and was attended by 23 teachers of our school. - Additional actions included announcements at the local press , the construction of a Facebook page ( www.facebook.com/10EKDytikisAttikisErasmus ) the construction of a webpage at the Internet ( 1Οekdytattikiserasmus.weebly.com ) as well as the organization and materialization of an educational seminar at the end of the year. The future targets set by the 1st L.C. of D.A. are to establish (permanently) the use of the moodle platform as a supportive and supplementary way to the traditional teaching procedure, to promote and support the adoption of computing science by more teachers, the latters’ extensive specialization and last but not least the participation of our school in other Erasmus programs relevant to e-learning and the application of computers’ science in education.
