Use of virtual problems/virtual patients in veterinary basic sciences
Start date: Oct 1, 2012,

The aim of the project is to integrate practical and theoretical knowledge of veterinary medicine in order to raise the motivation of students and their insight in the complexity of veterinary sciences as well as to improve their cognitive skills. 30 interdisciplinary Virtual Patients (VPs) will be devised and prepared with the use of the casus programme. They will be evaluated with regard to their content as well as technical and pedagogical aspects. These materials will be then made available to students. In the final part of the project, the usefulness and effectiveness of VPs and their use in self study will be assessed.Project output will be defined as enrichment and modernization of teaching facilities, which will enable future unification of curriculum content with regard to basic sciences. Students will not only be taught basic sciences in a more attractive way but they will also have an opportunity to broaden their knowledge of professional English. Students will be given access to reliable self learning materials. Implementing new methodology into the didactic process will have a positive impact on the overall quality of teaching the veterinary profession.VPs will be used by undergraduate students in each faculty participating in the project during its life. Information on the results of statistical analyses related to student satisfaction levels and learning success will be sent to deans of other veterinary faculties in partner countries with a suggestion that this tool should be incorporated into the study programmes.Depending on results of evaluation of VPs and student feedback, the consortium will discuss and decide about the manner and conditions of their dissemination. Conferences and workshops organized during the implementation of the project as well as scientific publications published will serve the dissemination of information to different target groups. Moreover, information about the project will be available on the project web page
