USE IT OR LOSE IT is a project realised by Primary School no 42 in Gdańsk (SP42). The school is a public institution which educates 750 students. There are 70 teachers employed there. Among pupils are those who come from both well-situated as well as from poor or dysfunctional families.The aims of the project are strictly connected with the aims which the school wants to achieve in the area of its European development. They include:- digital transformation of the school - application of the newest ICT tools in the process of learning and teaching for the whole staff;- improvement of the skills of school management in European dimension;- the growth of motivation, creativity and innowation;- the use of the newest methods and techniques in teaching English as well as other subjects; implementation of the project method;- the promotion of the idea of learning through the whole life;- reduction of the influence of social barriers on children's future, especially those with educational difficulties or from dysfunctional families.The main areas included in the project which require improvement are: insufficient knowledge of tools and methods concerning newest programmes and technologies, which signifficantly limits the possibility of its use in the educational process, in planning and creation of interactive tools; insufficient knowledge concerning work based on the project method or lack of effective system of implementing digital transformation or any changes of this kind in the institution.The key workers (six teachers of different branches and levels of teaching) engaged in the project are the initiators of proposed systemic changes. They have the basic knowledge in the area of new technologies as well as the awareness of what opportunities its use gives in the process of learning and teaching. The teachers are experts in their branch of knowledge and are also competent in other branches. They know how to pass this knowledge and communicate with the surroundings in the proper way. They also know English for communication.The main planned actions in the project are:1. September 2016 - participants' preparation for mobility;2. October 2016 - May 2017 - teachers' departure for training courses and job shadowing;3. May 2017 - a seminar for the management and the remaining teachers to present the knowledge  and experience gained during the courses;4. May 2017 - June 2018 - the key teachers will be supporting the remaining ones and monitoring  the course and quality of the process on implementation of the digital transformation; regular workshops on the use of ICT and modern activating methods will be conducted;5. the school will introduce teaching of individual subjects in classes 4-6 based on the project method;6. STEM subjects will be taught with the use of e-twinning platform;7. March 2017 - a school play in English with elements of sign language will be prepared;8. May 2018 - a presentation of thematic multimedia music play with the use of modern technologies intended for pupils, invited guests from school and out-of school environment;9. June 2018 - the task force together with other teachers will create a base - a set of modifications, scenarios, methods of work. This base will be easily accessible for those interested in it and it will contain elements of methodology and techniques on how to pass the knowledge.10. August 2018 - glossaries will be prepared.The project in its final phase will influence more and more teachers to be engaged in innovative actions and working with project method. It will develop the habit of using modern technologies as a standard in process of teaching and learning in order to give equal opportunities for all students, including those from dysfunctional families, and to strenghten their social attitude and increase the effects of learning. With the use of the newest applications and programmes, the pupils will work with information wisely and more effectively and function properly in the reality of continuous changes. They will become more creative and innovative, able to take any risk, will acquire the ability to organise, plan, analyse, assess, cooperate, take responsibility for one's own actions and set their own goals. With the help of information technologies, extra-curricular activities will be widely promoted, which will transform the school into educational environment going beyond the institution. The project will improve international projects management. The cooperation among institutions will help the pupils in the development of their cross-curricular competence, will raise their learning motivation and initiative for making their own educational programmes. An effective system of changes management in the institution will be implemented. Procedures and algorithms of how to safely and effectively deal with digital transformation on the level of the organization will be made, to be used also by other institutions.
