The Project “Upgrade your Skills in Europe”, propounded by Escola Profissional de Santo Tirso (EPST), will take place between 30th December 2016 and 29th December 2017. Its main purpose will be to give 12 EPST students of the 2nd and 3rd years of vocational courses, aged 16 to 17, the opportunity to do their vocational traineeships in Europe, and 4 alumni (newly graduates) plus 1 alumnus with Special Needs (Cerebral Palsy) the opportunity of doing their complementary training, also in Europe. We also intend to provide 4 faculty, preferably of the technical area, with the experience of on-going training in the form of job shadowing, as well as 2 staff members (employees) the opportunity of further training in the area of school administration. They will be placed in schools and companies in Spain, Italy and Greece, according to their profile and professional background. In addition to the training, it is intended for these 23 participants to go on professional and cultural visits in Europe, which will play a big part in widening their horizons, by allowing them to have rewarding experiences which will greatly complement their training.The main goals to achieve, for students and alumni, are to:a) Update, improve and develop technical, professional, linguistic and cultural skills;b) Know and evaluate new working methods and adapt them to the national reality;c) Acquire new skills, like work motivation, problem solving, assertive responsibility in decision making, team work and entrepreneurial and innovative spirit;d) Develop independence, flexibility and competitiveness;e) Have the possibility of an international career;f) Cooperate in the development of the region and the country;For faculty and staff:a) Update, improve and develop their language, scientific, technical and pedagogical skills;b) Promote a connection with the European corporate world;c) Come into contact with new working methods and pedagogically adapt them to the national reality.For the school:a) Ensure the sustainability of the institution, through excellence in quality and innovation in education and training, as well as technical and pedagogical quality of teachers and staff;b) Contribute for the training of its students, as well as their personal, professional and cultural enhancement;c) Reinforce European cooperation between all the institutions involved, develop entrepreneurship and improve employability;d) Reduce the school drop-out rate and promote social cohesion and citizenship.Our students of the 2nd and 3rd years will take part in the following predicted flows:a) A flow lasting 50 days, between May and June 2017, to Rovigo, Italy, for 6 students of the 3rd year of the Professional Courses of Commerce and Computer Technology;b) Another flow of 50 days, between June and July 2017, to Syros, Greece, for 6 students of the 2nd year of the Professional Courses of Commerce and Computer Technology;c) Flows for 3 accompanying teachers of the 3 student flows: some students are still underage at the start of the mobility and have financial difficulties, which means they have never travelled abroad, and their guardians would never allow them to travel without a teacher. These teachers also supervise the training and take part in their evaluation, ensuring that the traineeships abroad have the same accreditation of those done in Portugal.d) The 4 alumni will do their traineeships in Valencia, for 75 days in May and September 2017;e) The newly-graduate with Special Needs will do his 2-week traineeship in a company of his area of training, in Italy, in either March or April 2017.f) The staff flows (4 faculty and 2 staff) will last 1 week and take place in all 3 countries, in June, July and September 2017.With this Project, EPST intends to achieve the following Results and Impact: a) Widen cooperation with the entities involved in the project, through interchanging experiences that will lead to the transfer of innovative professional training methods and skills; b) Enhance the participants’ curiosity for different cultures and languages and widen their view of Europe; c) Recognize and validate the skills that were acquired during their traineeship. Our school also intends to increase the youth employment rate, develop the region and create a positive impact on an international level. The Programme will be disseminated through awareness actions performed by our institution in the region’s schools and associations. On the long run, the participants will have several benefits in what comes to their professional and personal skills, which will help their entry into the labour market and the projection of their entrepreneurship, as well as spread good practices.
