UOMO DI PAGLIA - The Straw Man, european intercultural project
Start date: Sep 1, 2010,

The Straw Man project is an experimental artistic and cultural project connecting digital art practices and technology-oriented body-centred performances thematically based on the intercultural dialogue about the symbol of straw man. The main purpose of the project is research, intercultural dialogue and realization of new forms of artistic creation around the theme of human body, its basic inner process of self-identification and its connection to the Avatar (a computer user's representation of him- / herself in a virtual environment). Straw Man is planned as a highly co-operative project which brings together recognized and emerging artists, experts and students from different countries to share their knowledge and experiences with the aim of developing new practices and produce new types of digital and visual performances which will be also presented at visible public manifestations such as major arts festivals. In this specifically setup cooperation project the main objective is to advance digital art performance and electronic theatre creative processes and circulate publically visible performances based on highly extrapolated social theme of self-identification and question of political transparency in democracy. The project interests are experiential, the main aim is process-oriented not mainly to produce sophisticated artistic projects but to produce also the works in progress that offer a strong fundament for further research and experimentation. There will be delivered an original cycle of exemplary media-rich performances and public space interventions as a source material for social research that would feed into creation processes and finally into renewed creations. This loop will create a communication and innovation platform for process-based critical contextualization and offer a chance to involve a growing number of active participants.
