Unsere Visionen für unser Europa - Wenn Jugend auf Politik trifft
Start date: Dec 1, 2015, End date: Oct 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Modell Europa Parlament Deutschland 2016 in Berlin under the title "Our visions for our Europe - Youth meets politics" is centered around the development and immersion of political participation, focusing on youth empowerment. The method used for the target audience is a simulation of the European Parliament. Altogether, in the course of the project, the young participants will share their experiences with about 30 political decision-makers, multipliers and experts. About 150 pupils of year 9 and 10, from all 16 German states will come to Berlin for 6 days from 21 to 26 February 2016. The issues for the debates will be developed beforehand in a workshop with the committee presidents and the presidents (all of them being former participants of international MEP sessions nominated by their schools and having acquired and deepened knowledge about parliamentary processes in former MEP sessions), suggested by the MEP teams of the participating schools. Extracurricular activities and school MEP simulations will be carried out by the participating schools to prepare the students, based on which 8 delegates will be selected by the each school to participate in the Berlin session. Criteria concerning inclusion, diversity and the principles of equal opportunities will be regarded in the selection process. Our aim is to use the focus of the Structured Dialogue for promoting Youth participation in Europe, thereby connecting the top-down approach of the SD with the bottom-up needs of the Youth. On the one hand we participate in the official consultations of the European Youth Strategy, on the other hand we link those to the experiences of the Youth concerning Europe, creating the European added value as a basis for European citizenship. Additionally, a forum is made possible for issues which are relevant to the Youth and promote school and extracurricular education. During the plenary session of the MEP.de 2016, held in the German Bundesrat in Berlin, eight resolutions drafted in the committee sessions during the week will be debated and voted on. External political experts will be invited and involved, so a wide range of suggestions and proposals will be contributed by the young participants, forming the basis for the fishbowl discussion with European politicians and decision makers (among others members of the EU parliament) from different political parties and fields. The dialogue between Youth and Politics will be sustainable and transparent, so that there will be a transfer of the suggestions of the Youth to the field of politics. Before and after the national session the delegations from the participating schools will meet politicians in their schools to discuss the committee issues. The MEP session is documented online and in the form of a MEP newspaper created by the participants. 20 committed participants will attend a seminar, preparing them for their assignments in the international MEP.eu sessions. In this preparatory workshop they will receive a deeper and sustainable insight into the work, function and relevance of the European Parliament as well as European Integration. Various key competences will be intensified, and the pupils will be inspired to political and social commitment. Further, European topics relevant for young people in the sense of the European Youth Strategy will be discussed and deepened with political decision makers. Politicians shall heighten their awareness of problems relevant for the youth and be motivated to cooperate more closely with young people and to use the Structured Dialogue as a resource for political creativity. The project is supported by the Bundesrat and the Bundesregierung (Bundespresseamt).
