Union Européenne et développement durable
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The aim of the Jean Monnet Module entitled « European Union and Sustainable Development » is to assess the achievements of the European Union in this particular field. It will give the opportunity to students, researchers and policymakers to come to grips with the challenges of sustainable development for the EU by drawing a parallel between their respective background histories. An interdisciplinary approach (economics, sociology, philosophy, politics...) to the study of sustainable development will be adopted together with Intercultural Dialogue (values, ethics…). In light of this, sustainable development endeavours to promote a brand of European eco-citizenship.The originality of this module stems from the 5 points set out below:1. Promoting and introducing young researchers to research topics involving the EU and sustainable development;2. Providing a publishing framework for the distribution of academic outcomes (through the French Review of Sustainable Development published by the University Blaise Pascal, but also collective works);3. Building a Future European Centre of Excellence in the field of educational and scientific innovations on Sustainable Development (European Master “Scientific and Teaching Expertise in sustainable development”)4. Using new scientific methods and new teaching tools to introduce the European perspective on sustainable development (topics such as biodiversity, energy transition, the social responsibility of organisations, heritage, food, North/South relations will be discussed from the point of view of scientific and educational knowledge but also according to the reports of the European Union).5. Setting up a European scientific culture based on linguistic diversity (60% of courses in French, 20% in English, 10% in Spain and 10% in German).
