Umweltbildung und Naturschutz am Ätna - Brücken für die Wildkatze
Start date: Jun 17, 2014, End date: Jun 16, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

With our commitment we would like to strengthen the network between the two Sicilian Nature Parks Etna Regional Park and Nebrodi nature park, which are the habitat of the globally endangered wild cat, in order to protect and to increase the biodiversity in these regions. For this purpose we support the traditional small-scale farming to develop in an eco-friendly way. The long term goal is to establish a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the Wildcat's region. Our volunteers are involved in this communication , planning and nature studies and the implementation of conservation measures. In addition, we support the small local NGO "Giacche Verdi Bronte" which is engaged in the field of youth, environmental education and social issues and uses horses as support. Our volunteers are integrated into all activities of Giacche Verdi and thus get a variety of contacts and contribute their share, including cultural exchange and with self-developed small projects, in which they involve the local youth. The EVS takes place in Bronte in Italy ( 20,000 inhabitants) , "City of pistachio", located on the northwest slope of the volcano Mount Etna, far from industry and the main tourist routes. The project can currently hold up to 8 European and local volunteers. The duration of a voluntary service is 12 months. Volunteers must have a strong interest in nature conservation and environmental education work, be highly motivated and self-confident and ready to integrate into a society of other mentality, be able to show respect ,tolerance and to contribute in a positive way. Team spirit and a certain degree of independence are also important requirements.
