This project, Ulster Wildlife 2016, will host 4 long term EVS volunteers on placements in Northern Ireland. The volunteers are from France (2 volunteers based in different activites), Finland and Bulgaria. Placements will be for 12 months starting in March 2016 for the Communications and Living Landscapes volunteers (Bulgarian and French volunteers) and August 2016 for the practical conservation volunteer (French and Finnish volunteers). The volunteers will be based in Ulster Wildlife, a major Northern Ireland conservation and environmental organisation, where they will:- support the Reserves Teams with practical conservation activities to help protect our natural environment and preserve habitats to ensure biodiversity. Many of these reserves are open to the public who are encouraged to use the spaces to increase their health and wellbeing. - support the Living Landscapes projects in protecting Barn Owls and Red Squirrels and help with public information and awareness raising on protected native species and their habitats- support the communications team with awareness raising on environmental and conservation matters and assist with events to bring communities into contact with natureUlster Wildlife has been hosting EVS volunteers successfully for a number of years in their practical conservation work and now wish to build on this previous success with the continuation of this work and the development of the two new roles (Living Landscapes and Communications). The volunteers will gain new skills and competences, develop their linguistic abilities and undergo personal development. It is hoped that this will lead to increased employability for them in the future. The volunteers will help local communities to gain new knowledge and experience of environmental protection and biodiversity, as well as a greater European awareness through their contact with young Europeans. It is hoped that there will be increased health and wellbeing for all involved in the activities.
