Start date: Oct 1, 2014, End date: Dec 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

European youth affected by adverse economic conditions, marked by a lack of opportunities. This is especially noticeable in southern Europe. Canary Islands is one of the regions with the highest rate of youth unemployment in Europe. In 2012 INDICOT launches Trabajandoxelmundo, a project that seeks to provide solutions to youth unemployment, from a holistic, young, proactive and creative perspective. EVS project TxElMundo 2015 was designed to support the work INDICOT has been carrying out through its Trabajandoxelmundo project, a project that fosters youth´s international mobility, with a strong focus on strengthening the concepts of European citizenship, European awareness and democratic values in the local population Txelmundo 2015 has been focused on promoting active citizenship and mobility in Europe beyond among young people in the Canary Islands ; the project has helped to identify and offer young people real opportunities for employment, training and volunteering abroad. For this the project has used its own website as well as social media channels (www.trabajandoxelmundo.org and www.facebook.com/trabajandoxelmundo). This project has not only reached youth in online format but also through community- based activities, making use of informal and non-formal learning methodologies, having spread the message loud and clear that there are plenty of jobs, training and volunteering opportunities in Europe and beyond. In all these actions EVS has been highlighted as a unique experience and learning opportunity at international level, which greatly contributes to improve personal, interpersonal and professional skills and thus enhances youth´s employability in a globalized world. Txelmundo 2015 has also included a stable youth advisory point where many youngsters have been offered advice about the different international opportunities available to them as well as specific tools and strategies for seeking and obtaining the international opportunity of their choice. Project Txelmundo 2015 has been formed by a team of five European volunteers from five different countries who have joined the team of local volunteers and staff members of the organization and of the project Trabajandoxelmundo. Volunteers have been supported by a supervisor in carrying out their tasks. Volunteers have been able to contribute with their own creativity and personal experience to the project objectives. Volunteer service had a duration of 9 months. This project has helped to improve and develop the skills of the participants, mainly interpersonal, intercultural and diversity-oriented competences, as well as those of learning to learn and linguistic skills (Spanish and English) and therefore has helped to raise their future employability. The project has highlighted the serious problem of youth unemployment in the region and the low European mobility of local youngsters. Txelmundo 2015 has succesfully motivated and assisted many young people in their search and access to an employment, training or volunteering opportunity abroad, mainly to access an EVS position abroad. The work carried out has also helped to inspire other organisations to move along the same path at the local, regional, national and international level, that is contributing with their efforts to reduce youth unemployment and strengthening democratic values, European citizenship and European awareness amongst the population.
