Through this project, the municipalities of Stregna and Prepotto, in cooperation with the municipality of Kanal ob Soči, are going to find the most suitable solution to restore a normal social life. The afore-mentioned municipalities have to face similar problems, such as the low population density, the growing over-65 population and the remoteness of the area, because of the presence of the old border. Against this background, the project is going to carry out a study to detect the main causes of this unease; the national and regional legislation concerning the social and healthcare sectors and the labour policies shall be analysed in order to plan the future interventions. Therefore Two Worlds aims at consolidating the local development-oriented strategies, by raising the local awareness and fostering a more effective communication with the resident population, and in particular with the elderly. Several initiatives have been undertaken to promote the skills and the knowledge of the elderly, in order to enhance their abilities and to involve them in the life of the community, for them to feel less lonely and isolated. Meetings and special evenings are devoted to the elderly, who become real protagonists by showing their know-how; all of which in order to prove that the traditions and the knowledge of the past are still valuable in the current social and economic system.
