Tweetalig onderwijs Eglantier Tanthof
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Eglantier Tanthof is a primary school with about 170 students and 15 team members (1 head of school, 1 teacher responsible for children with special needs, 1 caretaker / teaching assistant and 12 teachers (including 1 English teacher, 1 gym teacher and 3 bilingual teachers starting school year 2015-2016). We want to prepare our students for a international society where boundaries fade. Our current and future pupils grow up in a society that is globalizing. Within the Netherlands, due to the disappearance of borders in Europe, our students will meet more and more people from other nationalities and different cultures. This makes understanding of other cultures and international orientation increasingly important. For that we put internationalization high on our agenda. There is, in short, a great need for people who can communicate in English. Therefore we choose English as the spearhead of our school. To be able to teach 30% of our teaching time in English, the English skills of our teachers have to be sufficient. We have chosen for an English teacher (near-native speaker) who is going to give English lessons. The group-teachers will give lessons in English. We think this is the best way to intergrate English in tour daily teaching practice. We want to develop the skills of the team at three levels: 1. English teacher training to near-native speaker (C1 or C2 level) 2. educate the TPO teachers to B1 or B2 level 3 develop skills of the team (at various levels, in line with the skills and needs of the teachers) with the Pilgrims course The teachers will develop their own individual skills as wel as their skills as a team. This will increases the quality of education in and of English and at the samen time the team is working on the further development of the school. In this way, in a few years we will be a bilingual school, where at least 30% of the teaching children and teachers will speak high quality English.
