Tunturi 2016 - Lapland Adventure
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Tunturi 2016 - Lapland Adventure is a project from the youth to the youth. Taking place in the rare remote, untouched lands of Finnish Lapland, the project offers an unique learning experience for 49 people altogether. The project is built around the theme of intercultural dialogue, as suggested by the youth. Thus Tunturi 2016, as the name says, involves a 4-day Intercultural Adventure where the youth will explore the project theme by taking part in a role-play in the wilderness of Lapland in multinational teams. The activities with varying working methods invite the youth to observe themselves, their own values and culture and listen to others. Tunturi 2016 does not only offer the youth an unforgettable intercultural learning experience in the wild but also includes research on societal issues, such as familiarizing oneself with the official minority of Finland, the Sami. The whole project underlines the importance of intercultural competences and cultural diversity in the everyday life of an European citizen, no matter the country of origin. The youth will also reach out to the local community in terms of setting up a Living Library in cooperation with the locals of the Inari Municipality.Tunturi 2016 will have 30 youth attending the project, and in total the project will consist of 42 people. The participating countries are Czech Republic, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia and The Netherlands, and the youth will be between the ages of 16-25.The aim of Tunturi 2016 is to build a lasting network of young people in Europe. It ensures the youth’s personal growth and promotes our positive self-images. It activates us in decision-making and inspires us to encourage other youth to take on challenges, take part in international projects and thus promote peaceful dialogue between the cultures.
