TRY ie. Trainings to Renew Yourselves
Start date: Dec 31, 2015, End date: Dec 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project called “TRY” has two intentions: Firstly, it is a project that intends to try out again the advantages brought about by the new program called Erasmus+ and find out how it broadens opportunities for teacher training and job shadowing with a European dimension in the long term. Secondly, it is an acronym for “Trainings to Renew Yourselves”. With this project we would like to give opportunities to our motivated teacher colleagues to renew themselves in the field of education and furthermore to give them new opportunities to develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities and exchange their experiences with teachers from other countries. Considering the needs of our school there are three courses of action we take as far as the development of our staff is concerned. First we offer and do job-shadowing in the field of dealing with special needs students, cooperative work and how to use ICT during lessons. We want to show and compare the work of our special education teachers, learn new methods and forms of cooperative activities and the usage of modern technology. Our school intends to use this knowledge not only in lessons with special needs students but with talented students as well. With teaching practice we want to give an opportunity to one of our teachers to develop her teaching skills abroad. Second we want to give opportunities to teachers to develop their foreign language skills to be able to motivate our students to learn foreign languages more effectively. And third we strongly believe that methodology development doesn’t stop when higher education ends and our teachers still need to improve their teaching strategies, so we support them in the field of teacher training. Let’s have a look at it step by step: 1. With the first job-shadowing we want to offer opportunities for our special education teachers. We want to show how well they do their job and to give them opportunities to have a look at how special education teachers deal with students with special needs in other countries in Europe. With their experience they can develop their abilities and reach European standards. By sharing different teaching methods and exchanging good practices we, teachers, will experience teamwork at a European level and provide our students with new opportunities to acquire knowledge. Our target country for our professional groups (6 people) is Portugal. With the second job shadowing we offer opportunities for two teachers from the lower primary to develop their skills in cooperative work and ICT usage during lessons. Our target country is Latvia. With a teaching practice our school has two aims: first we offer teaching practice for a colleague from Portugal at our school and, second, one of our teachers does her teaching practice there. We hope that our colleague develops her teaching skills and later on she can help and be the mentor for beginning teachers. 2. With language courses we want to provide opportunities for our teachers (4 people) to improve their language skills, develop fluency and get confidence in everyday conversation. Besides German and English, we want to raise awareness to other languages as well and give motivation to our students with our own example. This way our colleagues will be able to exchange and share opinions, discuss teaching methods and with their experience they will be able to widen not only theirs but others’ views on learning and teaching in modern times. 3. With teacher training sessions the aim is to prepare our staff for their future career model, raise their awareness of current and future issues, building connections and strengthening the bond between EU countries. Our colleagues (6 people) have chosen well-known teacher training schools that provide a wide variety of courses. We rely on the personal experience that individuals in the EU have acquired throughout their lives and careers. When shared, this experience is a great tool to promote the development of other professionals. With this project we could broaden the European perspectives of our colleagues.
