Trauma & Revival
Start date: Oct 8, 2015, End date: Dec 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

“Trauma & Revival” proposes an ambitious journey to showcase & reflect on East-West cultural connections in the Cold War & today. Between 2015 & 2018, 6 partners engage into an international cooperation dynamic across Europe & beyond, bringing together artists, intellectuals & citizens from all over Europe. This narrative starts with an exhibition in Belgium, Germany & Russia that will explore the 1945 & 1968 period. Artists from across Europe & the Soviet Union had responded in their art to the rupture of civilization after WWII, showing a form of artistic & cultural unity despite the cultural Cold War. Through 6 exhibitions, 4 artistic encounters, 3 masterclasses, 3 workshops, 3 conferences, 3 roundtables, as well as other innovative tools such as a digital timeline, the project answers to 3 fundamental objectives: - Trigger arts mobility, launch an intercultural dialogue & change perceptions of citizens about the development of the arts in the post-war period. - Stimulate young artists’ skills and showcase their works inspired by artistic developments in the Cold War period. - Explore & raise awareness on the state of play of current cultural relations & cultural diplomacy between Eastern & Western Europe, including Russia. The project offers mobility, cooperation, career development & learning experiences to around 800 direct beneficiaries. It answers to different target groups’ needs: from general audiences, to artists, professionals, policy-makers to youth. Its strategy complies with 3 main priorities: Stimulate transnational mobility of artworks & artists; Target & develop new audiences, & Offer new artistic education schemes to participants.“Trauma & Revival” echoes the context in which Europe currently stands. It offers a stimulating platform to revisit a shared history, change todays’ perceptions & imagine new forms of cultural dialogue between the East & the West.
