Transnational Network of Leading Automotive Regions in CE (AutoNet)

Central European region is leading automotive territory in EU with highest concentration of the car or automotive part producers and network of connected subcontractors. Regional universities as well as other RTD facilities are addressing by their research activities automotive industry as of one the major fields of their interest. The current economic crisis has a negative impact on automotive industry leading to the instability of the sector; endangerment of the sustainable development of automotive regions and support for innovation in the automotive industry.The involved regions are so called leading automotive regions facing the highest risk of decrease in their production. In spite of the fact that all these regions enjoy the support from various business actors, an internal competition between these actors is still perceived. The joint actions implemented within a cooperation project will contribute to the protection of the automotive industry sustainability in Central Europe region with a specific focus to boost their interaction in the innovation processes. Achievements: The CENTRAL EUROPE project AutoNet specific objectives is to boost innovation processes between automotive actors (e.g. SMEs, universities) and promote CE regions and its actors as the key regions for creating new innovative processes, materials or products in Automotive industry. Project activities started with elaboration of methodologies for activities to be performed in the project – methodology for Matchmaking together with Exchange of Experience methodology. AutoNet network created to boost common cooperation started at the very beginning of the project by signing memorandum of cooperation by all project partners, furthermore were done scans and dissemination activities which brought additional members and cooperative organizations such as EASN, Autoclusters network or CLEPA. AutoNet MatchMaking Database (available at project website www.autonet-central.eu) is the main output for support of the regional actors created within the project. AutoNet MatchMaking database currently consist of more than 400 entries and this amount is continuously increasing by the new entries from the side of SMEs, RTDs, universities and other institutions from the automotive industry. More than 500 businesses have been trained in the database use. There was organized altogether 12 MatchMaking events, among which 9 of them were organized within the central Europe area, when 5th and 6th MatchMaking events were merged together. Three additional events were organized outside of EU in Turkey, Russia and Ukraine. At the MatchMaking events participated more than 600 representatives of different subject and held together more than 1300 hundred bilateral meeting. The result of the meeting is the signature of 6 EU + 2 non EU cooperation agreements proposing development of innovative solutions between SMEs, RTDs, universities or other actors. To get better influence on the policies project partners invited into the project relevant bodies as associated institutions and established regional project teams which analysed, compared and researched policies in different regions and elaborated study comprising overview of regional supporting policies influencing automotive industry. The Study on supporting services and policies for Automotive industry specifies five main directions of effective service support and identified 18 transferable best practices, from which each partner transferred at least one into its region. To disseminate the project results and share different approaches in support of the innovations in automotive industry partners have organized three Exchange of Experience seminars in Nitra, Reggio Emilia and Rzeszow. All these activities have significantly contributed to strengthen the cooperation in the leading automotive regions in Central Europe.
