Transitions into Enterprise for Adult Learners
End date: Aug 29, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

An ageing population in Europe presents educational, social and economic challenges. Ageing population also means challenging life transitions for people because they force them to let go of the familiar and face the future with a feeling of vulnerability. Most life transitions begin with a string of losses: The loss of a role; person; place or sense of where you ‘fit’ in the world. TEAL (Transitions into Enterprise for Adult Learners) responded to these challenges which all partners (UK, ES, DE) face by providing adult learners with new pathways to re-engage with learning and improve their knowledge and competences to consider making a transition into enterprise e.g. from unemployment/redundancy. This has been achieved through the delivery of a total of 4 workshops including a final dissemination event that was incorporated into a workshop over the course of the project. Each workshop focused on a different topic related to making transitions, encouraging participants to think and learn about enterprise as well as of positive interventions in order to make substantive difference in lives of older people. In addition, topics regarding mentoring and coaching, e-inclusion, realising barriers and developing strategies of how to overcome the transition period for adult learners were also discussed. The partnership (Inova Consultancy (UK), SCIENTER ESPAÑA (ES), New Technologies and Learning in Europe (NTL) (DE), that has been brought together by the project, has significantly contributed to the achievements of TEAL because they are deeply passionate about developing informal adult education and learning. Thus they were able to share best practices and experiences; focus on adult learner participation; engage with 50+ learners (45+ in Spain) to bring in their experiences and needs to make them rediscover the joy of learning, with a view to making the decision to learn about starting up in business.
