Trans-Channel Protected Landscape Integrated Management, Living Landscapes Initiative Phase 2

The Kent Downs AONB and Caps et Marais PNR are both beautiful areas of countryside, nationally protected for their landscape and conservation importance and separated by the English Channel. They share many common features of geology, landscape and landuse, and come under similar pressures because of their shared strategic location in the Transfrontier region. The purpose of this Interreg IIIa project is to build on the success of preceding Interreg II and IIIa partnership projects, and to develop and strengthen a new phase of joint working on the integrated common approach to managing these two nationally protected landscapes. This will be achieved through Transfrontier activities and exchanges that will : 1. Increase the number of sites and local areas benefiting from, and improve the quality of, landscape and built heritage conservation and management; 2. Develop and augment opportunities for public access, enjoyment and raised awareness and understanding of the importance of the protected landscapes by the widest possible audience, including innovative projects focused on young people and socially disadvantaged groups ; 3. Develop a joint approach through research and exchanges on long-term monitoring and evaluation of the condition and changes to the two nationally protected landscapes.
