Training, Language and Labour (TRALALA)

The project aims to develop and apply learner-centred approaches to language training and thus encourage potential employment opportunity for refugees/immigrants living in Europe. The project focuses on the need for educational and training institutions to adapt teaching programmes/methods to accommodate the needs of refugees/immigrants to thus enhance levels of integration into their host societies. Project partners will establish Social Dialogue amongst the range of institutions responsible for refugee/immigrant integration. Project activities will include the development of a non-optional ICT language training programme for refugees/immigrants upon which individual career plans can be mapped out by institutions in co-operation with the target group. A formal language training module (module 1) will be followed by informal and individualised work placements for the participants (module 2). Modules 1 and 2 will familiarise users with work practices, work vocabulary and the cultural/ethical aspects of work in their host countries. The language training programme and content will be developed by the project partners and will be piloted in each participating country with the experience of the pilot phase informing final development of the training modules. A supporting handbook and CD-Rom will inform institutions with regard to the purpose and application of the developed ICT-based training. Project partners will initially visit institutions in other partner countries to gain an insight into existing training provision for refugees/immigrants. End project results will be disseminated through national and international networks and through the hosting of a final project conference.
