Training in RT - A New Approach to Training for Quality in European Rural Tourism

The Latvian Tourism Association and its partners aim to provide a package of information and training tools for quality standards inspectors SMEs in the sector of rural tourism. It is expected to overcome a degree of resistance to proliferating standards and to improve perceptions of comparability with international norms. The web-based ITSPS (Inspector Training and Service Provider Self-Evaluation) tool, in EN, will comprise: quality criteria approved by international rural tourism organisations, a rural tourism inspector manual, a rural tourism service provider self-evaluation tool, a generic 'basic' quality criteria system and a virtual 'rural service provider inspector' training model.Once tested with a group of inspectors, it is expected to be adopted by the Latvian training institution. Once approved by the occupational sector, it should offer a flexible tool to public inspection authorities, training providers and to service providers themselves. The learning tool will be made available free via the internet. Rural tourism and rural development organisations as well as vocational training institutions will have access to project progress and results via a project website, an project information leaflet and through a final international conference.
